Esquire Directors Complete Everest Base Camp Trek and Raise £64,586 for Demelza Charity

After months of preparation, training and fundraising, Esquire’s Managing Directors, Paul and David, alongside Directors Will and Andy, have successfully completed their climb to Everest Base Camp in support of Demelza Hospice Care for Children.

The challenge saw the team take on one of the world’s most iconic treks, reaching Everest Base Camp at an altitude of 5,364 metres after an unforgettable journey through the Himalayas. Along the way, they faced demanding terrain, challenging weather conditions and the effects of high altitude, all while raising awareness and vital funds for a charity that means so much to everyone at Esquire.

For David, the experience was about far more than reaching the final destination.

“Everest Base Camp was a truly life-changing experience. Not only for achieving our goal of reaching Base Camp, but also for experiencing a way of life and culture that is starkly different to our own. It created memories, with a great group of people, that will certainly last a lifetime. If anyone asked me whether I would recommend the trip, I would 100% say yes.”

Paul echoed those sentiments, while acknowledging the scale of the challenge the team had undertaken.

“Everest Base Camp was an amazing experience, although there were definitely times when I questioned what I’d signed up for! Nine days of trekking took us from sunshine and forests to barren landscapes and temperatures of around -18°C. It was tough, exhausting and at times pretty uncomfortable, but reaching Base Camp made it all worthwhile, particularly knowing we were doing it for such a great cause in Demelza.”

Their original fundraising target was £50,000, but thanks to the incredible generosity of colleagues, subcontractors, suppliers, friends, family members and the wider community, the team has raised an outstanding £64,586 for Demelza. In addition, the wider Everest Base Camp fundraising group has collectively raised more than £250,000, with the Esquire team’s contribution representing a significant part of this remarkable achievement.

Demelza Hospice Care for Children provides extraordinary care and support to children with serious or life-limiting conditions, as well as compassionate support for their families. As a long-standing charity partner of Esquire Developments, the trek presented an opportunity to support the charity in a meaningful way while taking on a once-in-a-lifetime challenge.
